About Me

This weblog Heptanesian Archives is my research diary and repository for writing online, containing most everything I have ever written or published. Have a look at my CV, list of publications, papers and talks, and software projects.

Since 2005, I have been pursuing my doctorate in the Program in Science Technology & Society (STS) at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) where my dissertation research is on the history of business, technology and the urban environment in Bombay and Western India from 1860-1950.

I have been an exchange scholar with Middle Eastern & Asian Languages and Civilizations (MEALAC) at Columbia University (2006-7). In 2010-2011 I will be a Junior Fellow of the American Institute of Indian Studies (AIIS).

I have been a project fellow and technology evangelist with Zotero at the Center for History and New Media at George Mason University (2007-8). Since 2008 I have been a partner and co-owner of Entropy Free LLC, a software consultancy where my clients are the New York Public Library Maps Division and the Library of Congress.

From 1998 to 2005 I worked in Mumbai as an independent researcher, where I helped found and direct PUKAR (Partners for Urban Knowledge Action & Research) (2000-3) and founded CRIT (Collective Research Initiatives Trust) (2004 to present).
